WeatherSeal is an oil/resin-based semi-transparent exterior wood stain that, when mixed properly, achieves a thick, pudding-like texture. WeatherSeal Log Home Finish is creamy thick yet penetrating formula clings to vertical surfaces, virtually eliminating the drippy mess and wasteful runoff typical of regular stains. Yet, like magic, it soaks into the wood leaving a rich natural wood appearance. Creamy smooth application, no pigment settling, and uniform coverage that soaks into the wood leaving a transparent, natural wood appearance. Its highly durable oil-based resins, waterproofers, and special performance boosters really hold up to the elements. WeatherSeal is designed for use on log homes, wood fences, wood and shake siding, pressure-treated wood and most above ground wood surfaces where a longer-lasting natural wood look is desired. Low V.O.C. clean air formula. Fortified with borates. Made in the USA. Due to the thick consistency of WeatherSeal stain, a paddle mixer is recommended to fully stir the finish before applying. See Paddle Mixers. Use a quality synthetic bristle stain brush to apply Weatherseal. Because Weatherseal contains water, the bristles in a natural bristle brush will, over time, become limp and waterlogged and lose their ability to properly hold and spread Weatherseal in an even manner. Also, a good quality brush will allow for easier application and overall better appearance. Roller Applications work especially well over rough-sawn wood surfaces, T1-11, etc. It can also be effective over smoother surfaces if the roll-applied stain is immediately back-brushed to even out the appearance. A 3/4" knit polyester/wool blend roller is recommended for best results. Spray Application will work, though brush application is best. If you choose to spray, use a heavy-duty airless sprayer using 0.15 - 0.17 tips. To thin for spraying: Start at 4 oz. of mineral spirits per gallon and slowly adding more as needed. Don’t add too much, though, because once it’s in there you won’t be able to get it back out! When spraying, back-brushing is absolutely required for proper adhesion. See Technical Data for details. Surfaces should be clean, dry, and free of mill glaze, burnished surfaces, bark, cambium layers, and fungal organisms. Do not apply over previously painted or varnished wood surfaces without first removing the old finish coat. See Technical Data for details. At 70ºF: To Touch: 4-6 hours. Complete Hard Cure in 14-21 days. Longer drying time needed in high humidity or low temperatures.
