New Year, New Log Home Design
With the New Year, there are new resolutions. There are always the common resolution standbys; getting fitter going to the gym, healthier eating, finding a new job, improve your living situations, and spending your hard earned money more wisely. The first three resolutions are mildly easy to accomplish just takes willpower and consistency, but the last two can be a little bit trickier and even combined if done correctly.

If your resolution is to find a new place to rest your head and you have the finances to do so, then a fresh, well-designed log home with alternative energy is the way to fulfill that resolution. Not only will it fill your desire to have a current, modern living space but also over the years with greener technology and construction, the home can give back monetarily which will help your spending.

Decorating Your Log Home For The Holidays

With the holidays around the corner, everyone’s scrambling to create the perfect picturesque look for their home. Especially if you are hosting family and friends at your home over the break to celebrate the festivities, you want your log home to look the part. Even just the wintery atmosphere can give your house that extra welcoming feel to any guest.

The definition for Rustic is “of, relating to, or suitable for the country.” Most log homeowners appreciate the rustic look as they welcome the country style living. That concept can carry over to decorating for the holidays as well. Green trees and garland are a natural decoration for logs, as they are associated with the live trees the logs once were. The beauty and elegance of log homes completely embraces the Christmas season and holiday cheer.

Log Home Decoration Ideas

Log homes are practically made for Christmas. There are the obvious decoration ideas like having the Christmas lights that can adorn the outside of your house, and ornaments that are placed on your lawn, especially if you want to be like Clark Griswold in National Lampoon's Vacation. But in this scenario we are focusing on the indoor decorations, where most of your guests will spend their time.

In keeping with that rustic feel, you don’t have to ditch any of the adornments that you might have already, instead what you can do is enhance them. Having a Christmas tree with all the trimmings is one thing, but having garland hung around the stairs and wintery items scattered in different living rooms. Natural decorations like yule logs and rustic manger scenes fit perfectly amongst log interiors.

Adding a vase full of twigs with pinecones can be a good idea, as well as a centerpiece created with roses and berries can be simple and elegant. Wreaths hung around the windows or doors, evergreens and stockings around the fireplace. Holiday themed pillows, towels, candles, and décor can also be added to any room of the house.

With your log home or property, sometimes you need to find the right tools or décor to finish the decorating job. When that happens, you want to talk to the experts at Schroeder Log Home Supply.

At Schroeder Log Home Supply, we have a wide variety of application tooling and products to complete any log home project. For more information, contact Schroeder Log Home Supply today!

Common Log Home Problems – Back-Brushing

There are common problems and issues that can happen with any home or property, no matter the age, style or builder. It’s just the nature of home owning. But if you own a log home, the problems can become a little more unique and unusual compared to the average residential home owner. It also can be more detrimental to the log house if it is not addressed and taken care of immediately after being discovered.

One issue that is common to the log home owning experience is back-brushing. Back-brushing is the treatment of a stain or finish to the wood exterior of your log home, applied with either a spray, brush or ideally a combination of the two. When you back-brush it not only reduces drip marks, but it also forces the stain into the pores of the wood and then fills in the cracks and natural wood imperfections.

To achieve proper penetration and even distribution, spray the stain or finish on the logs and then immediately back-brush the material over the wood again with a quality brush. This will help ensure absorption and adhesion of the stain or finish.

If you did not have the knowledge or did not realize what would happen if you did not back-brush, then your only option is to remove the finish with sand blasting, cob blasting or a stripping.

If you need any further help or assistance on how to back-brush, or are in need of the correct tools to back-brush your log house, feel free to contact the professional staff at Schroeder Log Home Supply. Schroeder Log Home Supply has all you need to keep your log home safe and secure.

Designing Your Dream House

When it comes to your dream house, very rarely is a previous design or model of a house going to suffice for what you envision is the home you want to live in the rest of your life. Being able to create that dream home can be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and something that you and your family can cherish forever. Imagining all the memories that will be had in your dream house, no one can put a price on that.

Dreaming is one thing, making it a reality is another. This is especially true when it comes to designing a log home. There are many factors that come into designing your dream house; the first is one of the most important, that’s location.

You have to know where to build your log house in order for it to become your dream home. The location could affect every aspect of the building and structure. Essentially discovering the perfect spot for your log house can be just as important as the design.

Once you’ve gotten that figured out designing your home can begin. Start from the ground up, while thinking of the essentials that you want in your home. You’re going to want multiple floors for your log home, and enough to space on your property to expand if needed. If you are planning on starting a family or already have children, everyone is going to need their own room.

A place for everyone to eat and a garage for all the storage, the possibilities are endless to what you can imagine. So get the design off right.
