Common Log Home Problems – Back-Brushing

There are common problems and issues that can happen with any home or property, no matter the age, style or builder. It’s just the nature of home owning. But if you own a log home, the problems can become a little more unique and unusual compared to the average residential home owner. It also can be more detrimental to the log house if it is not addressed and taken care of immediately after being discovered.

One issue that is common to the log home owning experience is back-brushing. Back-brushing is the treatment of a stain or finish to the wood exterior of your log home, applied with either a spray, brush or ideally a combination of the two. When you back-brush it not only reduces drip marks, but it also forces the stain into the pores of the wood and then fills in the cracks and natural wood imperfections.

To achieve proper penetration and even distribution, spray the stain or finish on the logs and then immediately back-brush the material over the wood again with a quality brush. This will help ensure absorption and adhesion of the stain or finish.

If you did not have the knowledge or did not realize what would happen if you did not back-brush, then your only option is to remove the finish with sand blasting, cob blasting or a stripping.

If you need any further help or assistance on how to back-brush, or are in need of the correct tools to back-brush your log house, feel free to contact the professional staff at Schroeder Log Home Supply. Schroeder Log Home Supply has all you need to keep your log home safe and secure.
